Americans are exhausted from COVID, violence, racism, politics and racial anxiety. What can you do to keep sane in a world of uncertainty? What are the available resources and healthy interventions? First, seek a therapist, supervisor and consultant with a track record dealing with racialized trauma and racial aggression. Your stories matter. Seek validation of your experiences. Know there is nothing wrong with you. What has happened to you is wrong. Talk about it with a professional. Second, join a support group. Align with colleagues in clinical supervision. Graduate schools rarely if ever prepare one for racialized trauma. Come talk about the unspeakable with others under the protection of persons trained to offer healing interventions for racialized trauma. Third, engage in self-interrogation and accountability to BIPOC communities. Understand how you were socialized to embrace racial oppression. Discover the harmful impact on you and others. Finally, understand addressing racialized trauma is a process. The work is not one workshop, or webinar. You will not undo racism or the impact of racialized trauma by simply reading a few books in a club. You need professional help with skilled subject matter experts on racialized trauma and racial aggression.
